Battling

Do you want to test your meddle against other pokemon trainers? Maybe you just want to have fun with your friends and pass time? Battling is good way to do both!

In PokemonArcadia you can battle against other trainers in our discord server's battle chat. Info below can also be found there.

How battles work

Battles are turn based like in all major pokemon medias. Before the battle trainers need to flip a coin with beldum-bot and one who get's heads starts.

During you turn you can do one of these: use a move, use an item or switch pokemon.

Remember to check Bulbapedia to see how much damage your pokemon's move does.

Take in account type weaknesses/resistances. If move you're using is weak against pokemon you're attacking it only does half damage. If it's strong against pokemon you're attacking it does double damage.

Once all of your pokemon have fainted you lose.

Winner get's 100 pokedollars and +1 level

Loser get's 40 pokedollars

Things get bit trickier if you have pokemon with multiple types.

When in doubt always ask help from mod.

Let's say you have electric/water type pokemon. Normally water types are weak against electric types, but since it has added electric type it takes normal damage from them. It's still weak to ground and grass since neither of it's types are resistant against them.

It's resistant against steel types and only takes 1/4 damage from that type of moves since both water and electric are resistant to that.

Experience

To get experience aka levels for your pokemon you need to actively use them. This means drawing and writing about them.

Sketches +1 level

Flat color +1 level

Shaded + 2 level

Background + 2 level

Headshot/partial +1 level

Chibi +1 level (must be fullbody)

Animation

Simple animation *3 level

Complicated animation *5 level

When leveling up with animation the math is bit trickier, but not much.

(Each unique frame + fullbody/sketch/etc) * level of animation

If you make blinking icon for dratini and you make 2 unique frames; one where the eyes are open and one where eyes are closed. All in all you use 3 frames: open, closed, open. The two unique frames count towards your levels. It's also a fullbody (2 levels). Animation is quite simple so it's *3.

Blinking icon of dratini would be (2+2) * 3 = 12 levels

Writing

You can also level up by writing in case drawing isn't your thing or you just prefer this more. This also includes roleplaying.

200 words +1 level (this does not include character's ref)

400 words +2 level

600 words +3 level

Evolution

Your pokemon can evolve through leveling up. Those who evolve by special means (friendship, holding item, evolution stone, trading, etc) can buy special stone from pokemart to evolve.

Once your pokemon can evolve you need to either draw a fullbody showing it evolving or write a story about it (min 200 words).

Breeding

Breeding is wonderful event for pokemon and trainers! Getting to meet new friends and family members is big part of all pokemon journeys.

This journal should answer all of your questions about breeding your pokemon.

How often can my pokemon breed?

Single pokemon can breed once a week.

You can breed 2 of your own pokemon or with other member's pokemon.

Note that you can only create 3 clutches per week.

To breed with other trainer's pokemon you have to have permission them to breed with their pokemon.

How many offspring can my pokemon have?

Your pokemon can have max 8 offspring in one clutch. In total your pokemon can have unlimited amount of offspring.

How do I get special traits for my offspring?

Sometimes you get lucky and your pokemon's offspring will naturally have special traits. Though this is small chance, but it's still there. If parent pokemon already have any of the special traits they can be transferred to the offspring.

Okay, but who can buy the offspring?

Pokemon from clutches can be only sold to other members of PokemonArcadia. They can be sold for pokedollars or levels.

How do I start breeding?

Make sure that your pokemon is at least week old and is minimum 10 levels. Once the pokemon fills this criteria you can use it for breeding. Send the form below through group notes and mod will let you know once it's been approved for breeding.

Special traits

Special traits are traits offspring or pokemon you find can have. Pokemon can have max 3 traits unless they're *rare pokemon which can be obtained through events.

Shiny

Shiny pokemon can be any color but still has the original design.

For example shiny dratini could be yellow, but it wouldn't have new markings or it's pearl in different place.

Fusion

Fusion offspring can have type of either or both of it's parents.

Pokemon can have max 3 types. If pokemon evolves you can decide which types to keep if number of types would go over maximum.

For example dratini and pikachu breed their offspring could end up having electric, dragon or electric/dragon types. Offspring still has the basic design of parent pokemon, but it can be altered to reflect the new type ie dragon type pikachu could have small dragon wings and more reptilelike tail.

Morph

Morph pokemon share same palette as their normal counterparts, but look otherwise different.For example morp dratini could have longer horn, feet, wings and new markings, yet it would still be blue and white.

Crossbreed

Cross pokemon have traits from both of it's parent pokemon. For example dratini/corsola cross could have the body of dratini and 'spikes' of corsola.Another example of cross could be ponyta/cosmog where the offspring has body of ponyta and space mane from cosmog. Cross can have traits from max 3 pokemon.
